Main Campus of University of Glasgow, located at the University Ave of Glasgow. This is the south gate of the main building. This ages over 4 hundred years and still working in good shape. Several big halls in the main building for us to attend lectures, hundreds of students squeezing in the hall for the courses, but of course most of us just keep talking and sliding their phones.
It a very Hogwarts style building, adding a few flying brooms will make the things even more MAGIC !!
Hillhead Street, a tiny single lane located just outside of the UofG library. A street with a slope. Curiously many streets in the U.K often have a slope based on its ground. Buildings are built along the slope, which looks like a descending pathway to the mountain. And we look like studying at the top of a mountain, just like the top of human history.
There is a museum inside the university !! And it charges ticket to students ~!~!
Yoker train station, serving by ScotRail, the only national train company operating in Scotland. It is actually the first time I visit an unman train station that has no ticket barriers, no ticket machines and no staffs at all. It does have NFC card reader at both platform exit, but by my observation, not all passengers using the card to pay for their ticket, most of them are still using paper ticket. Therefore they will pay for their ticket on board from the train attendances, Unman stations are quite common in Europe, and later I find the U.S. also has many unman stations. Another crazy thing is this is not a crowded station, only a few trains will stop here and others are just passing by. This is not very friendly for outsiders especially the timetable is not that easy to read.
I found a video on YouTube recorded by someone else, showing the trains at Yoker Stations in the day time. It is quite normal to see that trains running in the Greater Glasgow area are all three carriages, some will use two trains connect into one heavy train to increase capacity in peak hours. Well, I had not encountered this but some of my friends said that sometimes those joined-train will split into two at some main stations, and each of them will go to different branches of the line. So if you sit in the wrong coach you might end up at a place you are not planning to go. Branch stations often have fewer residents living nearby, therefore fewer train services in a day, then it harder to return to your original destinations. All trains are commuter trains with only standard class carriages and no onboard services. The southbound destination of this line is Glasgow Queen Street station, one of the main station in Glasgow, serving trains towards north Scotland while Glasgow Central Station serving trains toward south to England.
Buchanan Street, which is like the downtown area of the city Glasgow, connects Queen Street Station and Glasgow Central Station at both ends of the street. Sometimes there would be cables shining with colourful light pubs attaching each side of the buildings. Also, some street performances often occur, like clown shows, bubble blowing and magic shows.
This photo was shot in 2018, where the time Catalonia independent movement was at the peak. But of course, compared to the later Hong Kong Anti Extradition Low Movement and U.S. Black Live Matter Movement, this was a quite peaceful independent election.
Another one was the fancy view in Prince Square Shopping mall, I was not good at shotting so took a terrible photo in it.
This is the photo for the first time I see a snowing scene. For a guy who lived in Guangzhou for 22 years, this was crazy cool for me (cool for both the words and the temperature). Well in later 2018 Scotland encountered the strongest cold wave in history, schools, shops and even public transports were stopped at the time. I stayed at my dom for three weeks!!
The one truly sad thing in Scotland. I got this magazine, holding my two years expectation to the cinema to watch the latest Star Wars episode in 2018. Guess what? You guess the result. The shittest Star Wars movie ever. This shit stopped me from watching any Star Wars movie ever. Until the Mandalorian brings that back, but that was in 2020 already.
That was the time when the 2018 British Isles cold wave occurred. I could still recall that the whole of Glasgow city was in total functionless, almost everyone had to stay in their house and only had limited time to purchase food and other resources. Small shops like Tesco Local and Sainsbury were sold out in a short time, larger supermarkets like Morrison and Lidl hold longer, but also running out supply shortly. All of the classes were cancelled, (but no online classes as an alternative at that time, unlike the Covid Era). But frankly, did anyone study at that time? Come on, I cannot stay focus with a few inches thick textbook. I just watched a lot of YouTube videos at that time and did nothing. Oh I did improve my cooking skills, but still cannot beat my laziness. What keeps me awake? Of course the Lemon Tea. 正所謂“維他檸檬茶,爽過吸大麻。維他入我心,忘記海洛因。”
Well actually in Glasgow there are many attractive museums to view, but at that time I was so poor at photo shotting, (of course still not very good now), then I did not take many there. Here you can see the whole list of Glasgow museums. For those art museums, seriously I had not enough understanding of modern art and ancient art, which just exceeded my capability. As for my personal favourite is the Riverside Museum, it is on the other side of Partick Station across River Clyde. An old-style sailing boat parking at the side, and a crazy large building displaying many cars, train carriages, and even aeroplane from time to time, it was the history of the U.K. transportation development. But stupid me did not take many photos. Damn ~!~!
